About the exhibition

Stereotypes of femininity form the central focus of the exhibition by Beate Passow at the Center for Advanced Studies of the LMU. On display are pictures of women from her various artistic phases; the pictures include Monkey Business (2017), Wanted (2015/16), Mode und Bewusstsein (2006) and Shangri-La (2005). In many of her works, the supposedly feminine medium of embroidery serves as a bearer of images, for example when an unspecified art collector is portrayed by means of her credit card statements, when female terrorists are sought by means of an embroidered wanted poster, or when forbidden images of prostitutes in Tibet are captured on traditional fabrics. The complete dissolution of female role models is the result of this fascinating display.

Prestigious GABRIELE MÜNTER PREIS-award winner Beate Passow lives and works in Munich.

At the Vernissage on 17 October 2019 Claudia Stamm (Chairperson of the political party mut) will give the introduction.
